076: 명사를 수식하는 과거 분사구

 

Ⅰ. 과거 분사구도 동사가 변한 것이므로, 과거 분사구 안에 모든 형식과 형태의

      문장이 올 수 있다.

① Do you know the woman dressed in black?

     (당신은 검은 색을 옷을 입은 그 여자를 아나요?)

- 과거 분사구는 부사적 전치사구 in black이 있는 1형식이다.

 

② Do you know the woman respected by her boss?

     (당신은 그녀의 상사로부터 존경을 받는 그 여자를 아나요?)

- 과거 분사구는 부사적 전치사구 by her boss가 있는 1형식이다.

 

③ This red bag is the present given to the woman by him.

     (이 빨간 가방은 그에 의하여 그녀에게 주어진 선물이다.)

- 과거 분사구는 두 개의 전치사구 to the woman과 by him이

   있는 1형식이다. 모두 given(give)를 수식하는 부사구다.

 

④ Maria was the only student called a genius by her friends.

     (Maria는 그녀의 친구들로부터 천재로 불리는 유일한 학생이다.)

- 과거 분사구는 genius가 주격 보어다(student = genius). 2형식이다.

  그리고 called를 수식하는 부사적 전치사구 by her friends가 있다.

 

Ⅱ. 과거 분사구는 형용사로 쓰인다. 따라서 명사를 수식한다.

1. 주어로 온 명사를 수식한다.

① The letter written by Tom is on the table.

      (Tom에 의해서 쓰여진 편지는 탁자 위에 있다.)

 

② The bullets fired from a rifle were made in Korea.

     (소총으로부터 발사된 탄환은 Korea에서 만들어졌다.)

 

③ The only beverage served at the dinner was coke.

     (저녁 식사에 제공된 유일한 음료는 콜라였다.)

 

2. 보어로 온 명사를 수식한다.

① This is the infected area.

     (이곳은 감염된 지역이다.)

 

②‘Guernica’is the picture painted by Picasso.

     (‘Guernica’는 Picasso에 의하여 그려진 그림이다.)

 

③ That book located in the bookstore is the book written by my father.

      (그 서점에 놓여있는 저 책은 나의 아버지에 의하여 쓰여진 책이다.)

- 두 개의 과거 분사구가 있다. 첫 번째 과거 분사구 located in the

   bookstore는 주어로 온 book을 수식하며, 두 번째 과거 분사구

   written by my father는 주격 보어로 온 book을 수식한다.

 

3. 목적어로 온 명사를 수식한다.

① He has a lovely little daughter named Madonna.

     (그는 Madonna라는 이름을 가진 사랑스럽고 귀여운 딸을 가지고 있다.)

 

② You must read the novel written in English by a Korean.

     (당신은 한국인에 의하여 영어로 쓰여진 이 소설을 읽어야만 한다.)

 

③ In the woods the police officer found the jewelry stolen in the robbery.

     (숲에서 경찰관은 강도 사건에서 도난당한 보석을 발견하였다.)

 

4. 전치사의 목적어로 온 명사를 수식한다.

① The Central Park in N.Y. was filled with fallen leaves.

      (뉴욕의 중앙 공원은 떨어진 낙엽들로 가득했다.)

 

② Most of the people invited to the party were his old friends.

     (파티에 초대된 사람들의 대부분은 그의 옛날 친구들이었다.)

 

③ Artifacts can be described as things made by people.

     (공예품은 사람에 의하여 만들어진 물건으로 묘사<설명>될 수 있다.)

 

Ⅱ. 현재 분사구와 과거 분사구의 특별한 차이

① China is a developing country.(중국은 개발 중에 있는 나라다.)

② Korea is a developed country.(한국은 개발된 나라다.)

- 현재 분사구는 어떤 행위가 일어나고 있는 경우에, 과거 분사구는

   그 행위가 완료된 경우에 쓰이기도 한다. 따라서 developing은

   개발되고 있는 경우에 오며, developed는 개발이 끝난 경우에 온다.

 

③ Togo is an underdeveloped country.(토고는 개발되지 않은 국가다.)

 

④ Now Thailand is a developing country(지금 태국은 개발 중인 국가다);

     Thailand will become a developed one soon.(태국은 곧 개발된 국가가 될 것이다.)

 

⑤ Republic of Korea became an advanced nation in 2021.

    (대한민국은 2021년에 선진국이 되었다.)

0751	The passengers injured in the bus accident are becoming well.
	과거 분사구 injured in the bus accident는 주어로 온 명사 passengers를 수식한다. 1형식이다. 전체 문장은 2형식 진행형으로, 여기서 주격 보어는 형용사 well이며, 여기서는 ‘건강하다’는 의미다.

0752	Six villagers infected with Covid-19 were isolated from the village. cf. This is the infected town.
	과거 분사구 infected with Covid-19는 주어인 명사 villagers를 수식한다. 부사적 전치사구 with Covid-19은 infect(ed)를 수식한다. 전체 문장은 수동태로 1형식이며, 과거 분사구도 부사적 전치사구 with Covid-19가 있는 1형식이다. 비교 문장에서는 infected에 딸린 것들이 없기 때문에 town 앞에 왔다.

0753	This product is the new mobile phone made in Korea.
	과거 분사구 made in Korea는 주격 보어로 온 명사 phone을 수식한다. 전체 문장은 2형식이며, 과거 분사구는 1형식이다.

0754	The materials used to make this product are iron and gold.
	과거 분사구 used to make this product는 주어로 온 명사 materials를 수식한다. 과거 분사구 안의 동사 use(d)를 수식하는 부정사구 to make this product가 왔다. 과거 분사구 안에 모든 형식과 형태의 문장이 올 수 있기 때문이다. 동등 접속사 and는 주격 보어인 명사 iron과 gold를 이어준다.

0755	U.N. delegates will meet the prisoners abused by the guards.
	과거 분사구 abused by the guards는 목적어로 온 명사 prisoners를 수식한다. 전치사구 by the guards는 abuse(d)를 수식한다.

0756	1. Kant wrote the book displayed in the bookshelf. 2. The book displayed in the bookshelf was written by Kant.
	과거 분사구 displayed in the bookshelf는 1-문장에서는 목적어로 온 book을 수식하며, 2-문장에서는 주어로 온 명사 book을 수식한다.

0757	Rescuers were working in the ruins of the collapsed buildings.
	과거 분사구 collapsed는 전치사 of의 목적어로 온 buildings를 수식한다. collapsed에 딸린 것이 없기 때문에 앞에 왔다. 또한 전치사구 of the collapsed buildings는 앞의 전치사 in의 목적어로 온 ruins를 수식하는 형용사적 전치사구다.

0758	Jongmyo Shrine is one of the world cultural heritages built in Lee Dynasty.
	과거 분사구 built in Lee Dynasty는 전치사 of의 목적어로 온 heritages를 수식한다. built를 수식하는 전치사구 in Lee Dynasty가 있기 때문에 뒤에 왔다. 또한 전치사구 of ... heritages는 주격 보어인 명사 one을 수식한다. 형용사적이다.

	과거 분사구 hidden in the basket은 전치사 except의 목적어로 온 명사 one을 수식한다. 전치사구 except one은 앞의 목적어인 명사 eggs를 수식한다.

	현재 분사구는 동사의 행위가 진행되고 있을 경우를, 과거 분사구는 동사의 행위가 끝난(완료된) 상태를 나타낸다. 1. ‘성장하고 있는 아이’ 2. ‘성장이 끝난 남자’, 즉 성인
